On June 5, 1975 the Bay Harbour Church of God was started under the name of Jekyll Heights Church of God.
Rev. Carlton Ring along with 11 members purchased the church from the Baptist Convention for the sum
of $25,000.00, half of the original asking price.
Jekyll Heights was closed in February 1980 and remained closed for 18 months. During that time it was put
up for sale and for the glory of God was never sold. Rev. Samuel Gunter came along and on August 10, 1981
the church was re-organized with 24 members.
From January 1983 until May 1988 the church was under the care of Rev. Mary Dedge, Rev. Gene Thrasher,
and Rev. Geoff Critchley.
On June 3, 1988 the name of the church was changed to Fancy Bluff Church of God under the care of Rev.
Raymond Drury. It remained Fancy Bluff Church of God until May 3, 1994 when Rev. Charles Griffin and the
church decided to change the name again and it received its current name. Bro. Griffin remained pastor until
July of 1994 when Rev. Frank Gumpton became pastor and served until March of 1995.
Easter Sunday, April 16 1995 marked another change in the life of the Bay Harbour Church of God. On this
Sunday Rev. Rickey Harris became pastor with 20 members on roll.
The land to the right and the left of the church was purchased within a year of each other, the former on
July 26, 1996 and the latter on July 15, 1997. Finally, on February 7, 1999 the ground was broken for the
start of the new facility and was completed on October 24, 1999. On this Sunday the new church was dedicated
to the Lord with 349 people present.
The Lord has done a wonderful work in this church and it is anticipated that the Lord will continued to move
in the years to come.
To God be the glory; great things He has done!
